POST OP INFORMATION
PTERYGIUM SURGERY POST-OPERATIVE HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS
(AFTER OPERATION)
- Take eye pad and clear plastic shield off the next morning.
- Keep the clear plastic shield and use when sleeping for 7 nights. Tape over eye with Micropore tape.
- Wash hands before cleaning eye or giving medications.
- Gently clean eyelids with a clean cloth using cooled boiled water.
- Put glasses on holding the end of the arms to avoid poking your eye.
- Do NOT rub or put pressure on eye.
- Shampoo hair carefully for the first 2 weeks. Avoid soap or water directly entering eye.
- No swimming for 2 weeks.
- No make-up for 1 week
MEDICATIONS
Prednefrin forte | Every 2 hours whilst awake | Start day after surgery | Continue until review with Dr. Goh |
Chlorsig drops | Four times a day | Start day after surgery | Continue until review with Dr. Goh |
Chlorsig ointment | At night just before sleeping | Start day after surgery | Continue until review with Dr. Goh |
- Shake bottle before use.
- Instil drops by pulling lower lid down and putting drop in pocket between eyelid and eye, then gently close lids (do not squeeze) for 1 minute.
- Restart all regular eye drops, tablet medications, and blood thinners.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- It is normal to have a sandy, gritty or dry feeling for the first 3-4 weeks.
- It is normal for your eye to be red, sore, scratchy and light sensitive for the first week.
- It is normal for vision to be blurry initially, but should improve every day.
PRECAUTIONS
- Do NOT rub your eye.
- Do NOT swim for 2 weeks after surgery.
- Do NOT wear make up around the eye for 1 week after surgery.
- Do NOT enter dusty or windy environments without protective eyewear or sunglasses.
WARNING SYMPTOMS
- Increasing pain, worsening vision, or excessive discharge from your eye.
- If you have any of the above then immediately:

or - Go to the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Emergency Department.
